Box Score Missoula, MT - Closing out their Division I exhibition tour, the Simon Fraser University men's basketball team was beat by the University of Montana Grizzlies, 102-49.
"We game out flat against the defending Big Sky champion," said Head Coach
James Blake. "Montana took us out of our offence early and we never got into a good flow.
Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) matched their intensity in the first half and
Justin Cole (Los Angeles, CA) continues to impress off the bench with his energy and effort."
Cole was front and centre in the battle for SFU, scoring eight points while Dunn followed Cole, chipping in seven.
Senior forward
Ibrahim Appiah (Montral, QC) topped SFU in rebounds, nabbing seven.
The Grizzlies were led by forward Kareem Jamar, who scored 28 points for the Montana victory.
Despite struggling, the Clan found success from the foul line, shooting 75 percent on free-throws. Â
SFU's bench stepped up to aid in the fight, adding 27 points for the Clan.
Starting the game on a 10-0 run, Montana held SFU scoreless for the first four minute of the game. With 16:21 to go in the first half, transfer
Darius Page (Seattle, WA) looped in a layup to put the Clan on the board.
The Grizzlies' defence continued to hinder the Clan, allowing the visiting team to shoot only 22 percent from both under the basket and beyond the arc.
By the break, Montana had increased their hold to 46-19.
Coming out of the locker rooms recharged, SFU continued to try and chip in to the Grizzlies' lead, but the damage had been done, resulting in the loss.
"Unfortunately we just ran out of steam playing against good Division I teams back-to-back," added Blake.
The Clan will return to the court for their first official game of the season on November 8 when they face the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds in Fresno, CA. Â
