Box Score

Seattle, WA - The Simon Fraser University men's soccer suffered their first loss of the 2013 season on Thursday night as the Seattle Pacific Falcons defeated the Clan 2-1.

"Tonight we didn't score on the chances that we created and this allowed SPU to grow more and more confident as the match progressed," said Head Coach Alan Koch. "Big games are won and lost by little things. We made some unnessary mistakes tonight that really hurt us. We need to re-group and increase our collective focus ahead of our next match against Saint Martin's. This conference championship is going to be a dog fight to the end."

SPU opened the scoring early as Davis Karaica scored in the 12th minute with assists going to Matt Merchant and Danny Oliva.

In the 23rd minute, the Clan answered as Chris Bargholz (Fuessen, Germany) scored on a diving header to tie things up at one.

For the next 55 minutes, the score remained tied at a goal a peice.

Olivas was the one to break the deadlock for the home side, scoring in the 79th minute to give SPU the 2-1 lead.

His goal would hold up as the game winner.

Brandon Watson (Victoria, BC) started for the Clan and took his first loss in an SFU uniform.

With the loss, the Clan's record falls to 8-1 on the season, 4-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

SFU will look to rebound from the loss on Saturday when they visit the Saint Martin's Saints at 3:15 p.m.
