10/31/2013 8:04:00 PM

Box Score Nampa, ID - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team visited the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders on Thursday night, losing the match in straight sets 25-10, 25-17 and 25-17 against the third place team in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

"NNU is a good team and the played well," said Head Coach Gina Schmidt. "Our passing didn't allow us to run our offence and that made things difficult against a strong blocking team."

Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) led SFU in digs with 13 while Kelsey Robinson followed with 11.

No one on the Clan was able to reach double figures in kills in the match as Robinson led the team with seven on the night.

Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) and Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) tied for the team lead in assists with 10.

The Clan scored the first point of the match thanks to a kill from Robinson but the home side would go on an 11-3 run to open the set, and the match, with an 11-4 lead. The Clan were not able to get back into the set, as the Crusaders scored 14 of the final 20 points in the set to take the opener.

SFU challenged the Crusaders in the second set. After falling behind 7-2 in the early going, the Clan scored eight of the next 11 points to tie the match at 10. After NNU built up another small lead the Clan tied things once again at 15, only to have the Crusaders go on an 8-2 run to close out the set with an eight point victory.

The Clan kept things close once again in the third and final set but never led, once again dropping the set by eight and the match three sets to none.

The loss drops the Clan's record to 9-8 on the season and 4-7 in GNAC play.
