Clan fall to second place Falcons

10/5/2013 3:35:00 PM

Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team lost to the 23rd ranked Seattle Pacific University Falcons on Saturday afternoon at Terry Fox Field, 3-0.

"We need to find some more consistency," said Head Coach Shelley Howieson. "We have had a lot of moving pieces with the back line and the goalkeeping situation and that makes it difficult to find some consistency."

The Falcons got on the scoreboard early on and were able to hold the Clan off the board.

The first two goals came close together midway through the first half, with the opener that would prove to be the game winner coming in the 19th minute when Hannah Huesers scored on a breakaway goal to give the visitors the lead.

They made it 2-0 when Demi Waitley scored in the 23rd minute on a scramble in the box.

That was it for the first half but SPU added one more in the second half when Ali Martin scored in the 48th minute on a cross into the box with Huesers getting the assist.

The Clan had a great opportunity to get on the board in the 88th minute but Katrina Abel's (Coquitlam, BC) shot rang off the post as the game ended 3-0.

With the loss, the Clan's record record moves to 0-4-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play and 0-6-2 overall.

The women's soccer team will be back in action on Thursday night against another tough opponent, the number two ranked team in NCAA Division II, the Western Washington University Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Terry Fox Field.
