10/5/2013 9:28:00 PM

Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team could not win their second straight game on Saturday night in the West Gym as the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders defeated the Clan three sets to one.

The Clan took the first set 25-22 before dropping the next three 25-19, 25-15 and 25-18.

Three Clan players reached double digits in kills in the contest as Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) and Kelsey Robinson (Surrey, BC) tied for the team lead with 11 kills while Amanda Renkema (Delta, BC) had 10.

Three players also reached double figures in digs as Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) led the way with 20, Robinson had 17 and Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) had 10.

Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) once again led the team in assists, picking up 33 on the night.

"I thought we played well but they just out executed us," said Helen Yan (Port Moody, BC). "They took care of the small details. We were in the game but a few times we got down on ourselves and they got on runs that killed us. We'll just need to put in lots of practice to be ready for next week."

With the score tied at seven in the first set, SFU went on a modest 5-1 run to take a 12-8 lead. SFU would build their set lead to six at 19-13 before eventually taking the set by three.

The Clan showed fight in the second set, trailing early on but fighting back to tie the set at nine. However the Crusaders would pull away, scoring 11 of the next 17 points to build a 20-15 before, eventually taking the set by six.

After dropping the third set by 10 points, the Clan jumped out to an early 3-2 lead in the fourth set. Once again the Crusaders pulled away and while SFU attempted a late comeback to force a fifth and final set, it was not to be as NNU took the set and the match, three sets to one.

With the loss, the Clan's record falls to 6-4 on the season, 1-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

SFU will be back on the road next week as they travel to Monmouth, OR to face the Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday before a match-up against the Saint Martin's Saints in Lacey, WA on Saturday.
