Clan win third of the season on "Red Night"

11/16/2013 9:59:00 PM

Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University men's basketball team won their "Red Night" game against the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts by a score of 83-77 Saturday night in the West Gym.

"We had to really come together and adjust because they got into bonus early on and their free throw shooting was on point and that kept them in the game," said senior Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC). "We hit big shots down the stretch but we need to focus on defence this week in order to come out strong in the upcoming games."

Appiah would lead the team with 10 rebounds in the game.

After a slow start, Justin Cole (Los Angeles, CA) came off the bench and caught fire, scoring eights points in his first minute on the floor. Cole would finish with 12 on the night.

SFU point guard Sango Niang (Paris, France) led the Clan with seven assists in the game.

Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) and Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC) tied for the team lead with 13 points each.

Fouls kept the Argonauts in the game down the stretch as they hit 20 out of their 23 free throw attempts in the game.

The Clan had five players with double digits.

The momentum went both ways the whole game but the Clan's three point shooting played a major factor as they shot 10 for 23 in the game from the three point line.

With the win, the Clan's record improves to 3-1 on the season, all in non-conference play.

The men's basketball team will be facing Douglas College on Tuesday, November 20 in West Gym.
