Anchorage, AK – Following up a strong showing on Thursday in Fairbanks, the Simon Fraser University Clan volleyball team was unable to stay perfect on their Alaskan trip, falling three sets to none against the 10th ranked Alaska Anchorage Seawolves Saturday night.
The Clan lost the first set in a back and forth battle that ended 26-24 in favour of the Seawolves. Following the tight first set, Alaska won the next two by scores of 25-11, and 25-10 respectively.
Kesley Robinson (Surrey, BC) led the team with 10 kills, followed by Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) who tacked on six.
Robinson added six digs on the night, which placed her third on the team behind Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) with seven and Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) who led with 11.
Both Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA), and Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) tallied double digit assists, with 11 and 10 respectively.
Simon Fraser had a chance to close out the first half leading by as much as 24-22, but was unable to clinch as Alaska Anchorage completed the comeback.
During the second and third sets Alaska Anchorage showed why they are the 10th ranked team in the nation, as they found their groove for their fifth straight win.
The Clan will return home after a 1-1 Alaskan road trip, leaving their record at 11-11 on the season, and 6-10 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Simon Fraser will look to get back above .500 with a home and home series against the Western Washington Vikings, the first leg taking place on Thursday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. back home in Burnaby.
