Bellingham, WA - The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team wrapped up their 2013 season with a 5-0 loss to the 11th ranked team in NCAA Division II, the Western Washington Vikings.
"It's too bad we didn't bring the same intensity and pressure in the first half that we did in the second," said Head Coach
Shelley Howieson.
The Vikings scored four times in the first half, a deficit the Clan could not come back from.
WWU opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Delanee Nilles scored on a header off a corner kick.
Kristin Maris made it 2-0 for WWU three minutes later when she scored on a head off a cross on the right side.
Fifteen minutes late, Catherine Miles tapped in a low cross from the left to make it 3-0 and Maris scored again in the 37th minute to wrap up the first half scoring and send the Clan to the locker room at halftime trailing by four.
The Vikings would add one more goal in the second half to secure the win.
Simone Tessler (Eugene, OR) made three saves for the Clan in the match to wrap up her freshman season.
With the loss, the Clan conclude 2013 with a 1-13-2 record, 1-11-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
