Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball put forth a strong effort against the number 10 ranked Western Washington Vikings on Thursday night in the West Gym but could not top the powerful Vikings, losing their home finale in straight sets.
Western Washington won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-16 in a win that clinched the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship for WWU.

Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) and Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) had 16 and 11 assists, respectively.
"I was very proud of how we played tonight and the girls really came together and took it to a very hard team," said Amanda Renkema (Delta, BC) who had six kills in the match. "This was the best game we have ever played against WWU and we really brought the pressure. It was a great way to close the season in front of our awesome crowd and we will have two days to fine tune for our final game of the season."
The Clan came out of the gate strong as they took a 4-1 lead only to have WWU go on a 9-2 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Clan would not back down though as SFU scored the next four points to tie the score at 10.
The score was close throughout and was tied eight times in the set before the Vikings snuck by the Clan to earn the 25-23 first set victory.
Simon Fraser hung around in the second and third set but WWU was able to hold off a feisty Clan squad and take each set for the straight sets victory.
With this loss, the Clan's record drops to 6-11 in conference play and 11-12 overall.
The last game of the season for the Clan will be on Saturday facing the Vikings once again but this time in Bellingham, Wa to complete the home and home series.
