Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team returned home to the West Gym on
Thursday night and earned a straight sets victory over the visiting Saint Martin's Saints.
The Clan won the opening set 25-21, the second set 25-13 before sweeping the match with a 25-15 victory in the third set.
Madeleine Hait (Burnaby, BC) led the squad in kills with 14 while
Kelsey Robinson (Surrey, BC) also reached double digits for the Clan with 11 kills.
"I think this game we executed individually and executed well as a team too," said Hait. "Our offence and defence both played well. We've been working a lot on defending and turning saves into kills and I think that showed
tonight."
Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) and Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) once again led the team in assists with 21 and 19 respectively.
Defensively, Robinson led the team in digs with 17 while
Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) and
Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) each had 13.
The Clan jumped out of the gate, scoring the first two points of the match before SMU tied it up. The set stayed close throughout as the score was tied nine times before the Clan pulled away late and took the set by four.
In the second set, with the score tied at four, the Clan pulled away.
SFU went on a 14-5 run to take control of the set at 18-9 before closing out the set with the 12 point win, 25-13.
With the score tied at 11 in the third and final set SFU took control once again, outscoring their opponents 14-5 the rest of the way to take the set 25-15 and the match three sets to none.
The victory improves the Clan's record to 10-9 on the season and 5-8 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Simon Fraser will be back in action at home in the West Gym on
Saturday night when they host the Western Oregon Wolves at 7:00 p.m.
