Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University Clan men's basketball team wrapped up their final game of the 2013 calendar year with a 100-72 win over the Capilano University Blues Thursday night in the West Gym.

After a slow start, the Clan began to assert themselves, highlighted by senior Elijah Matthews (Washington, DC) stealing the ball and taking it down and finishing the play off with an emphatic dunk. Matthews would finish with a game high 17 points, shooting a strong six-of-nine from the field and three-of-six from behind the arc. The guard would also add five assists and three steals.

In the opening twenty minutes, the Clan were able to force 22 turnovers which lead to 20 points for SFU. As well, the Clan outscored the Blues 22-10 in the paint helping them pace themselves to the 44-26 halftime lead.

"It's always difficult to play games during and after exams, when we've got Christmas on the brain and exams on the brain," Head Coach James Blake said following the game. "I'm happy with how we played tonight. I think you're going to see a re-energized team when they get back from the holidays."

Senior David Gebru (Seattle, WA) scored 10 of his 16 points to tie Matthews for the half lead, while finishing second again to Matthews in the game in points.

The second half would see the Clan continue to increase their lead as they outscored the Blues 56-46 in the final 20 minutes of play.

In all, eleven players saw the floor for the Clan, including ten players who hit double digits in scoring. Also, six players scored in double figures which included Mathews, Gebru, Dillon Hamilton (Vancouver, BC) with 15, Justin Cole (Los Angeles, CA) with 13, Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) with 10 and Darius Page (Seattle, WA) who also had 10 points.

Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC) led SFU with seven rebounds, while Matt Staudacher (Kirkland, WA) tied with Matthews with a game high five assists. Page led the game with six steals.

"It's always great when everyone gets to play," explained Blake. "If you're a walk-on to a scholarship athlete, you put so much time in weekly and it's to play the games. When you get to see these kids play who usually don't get a lot of minutes, you get to see them contribute and do things, it makes you feel real good."

SFU would outscore the Blues 52-32 overall in the paint, while also holding a 32-6 point edge in points off turnovers.

This also marked the second time this season the Clan have scored 100 or more points, as they defeated Douglas College 104-76 back in November.

The win improves the Clan's record to 7-3 on the season.

After the holiday break, the Clan will be back in action January 2 against Alaska Fairbanks in Fairbanks, AK at 7:00 p.m. local time and then January 4 against Alaska Anchorage, again at 7:00 p.m. local time.
