Seattle, WA - The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team suffered a tough loss on Thursday night to the Seattle Pacific Falcons, losing 70-60.
"We faced a very determined team who competed very hard and shot the ball extremely well tonight," said Head Coach
Bruce Langford. "We didn't shoot well and we did not match their intensity."
Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (Toronto, ON) led the Clan with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing a game high 11 rebounds.
A total of four members of the Clan reached double digits in the game as
Erin Chambers (Mission, BC),
Chelsea Reist (Mission, BC) and
Kristina Collins (Port Coquitlam, BC) each had 10 points.
Collins also led the Clan with six assists.
Katie Benson had a big game for Seattle Pacific, scoring a game high 32 points and pulling in 10 rebounds.
The Clans struggled from beyond the arc, shooting only 17.4 percent on three point attempts while SPU shot 46.2 percent.
The Clan jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game, thanks to five points from Collins and two from Raincock-Ekunwe.
With the Clan leading 20-14, Collins hit a jump shot to make it 22-14 for SFU with 10 minutes left in the half, matching the largest lead of the half for SFU at eight.
Seattle Pacific chipped away at the Clan lead throughout the rest of the half, outscoring SFU 20-12 in the final 10 minutes as the two teams went into the locker room tied at 34.
SPU scored the first five points of the second half to take a 39-34 lead and the Clan would not lead again.
With 13:18 to play in the game, Reist made a layup to bring SFU within three points of the Falcons but that was as close as the Clan would get, eventually falling by 10.
The loss drops the Clan's record to 10-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, 17-4 overall.
Simon Fraser will now travel to Billings, MT where they will face the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
