Chambers and Wyman go for ball vs MSUB

Clan bounce back with a win over the Yellowjackets

Box Score Billings, MT - The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team bounced back from their loss on Thursday night with a 61-55 victory over the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets on Saturday.

Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (Toronto, ON) had another big night for the Clan matching her 21 points with 21 rebounds.

"We were very solid defensively in the first half and Nayo was outstanding on the boards," said Head Coach Bruce Langford. "We did a great job getting the ball into her. We had a good run in the second half shooting the ball and that allowed us to build up a lead. They had some bursts of momentum late but we had a strong lead."

Erin Chambers (Mission, BC) matched Raincock-Ekunwe's point total, scoring 21 of her own.

Carla Wyman (North Vancouver, BC) and Marie-Line Petit (Bergeronnes, QC) tied for a team high four assists in the game.

Three members of the Yellowjackets reached double digits in points as Bobbi Knudsen led her team with 21 while Brooke Tolman and Janiel Olson each had 11.

Knudsen also had a game high six assists.

The Clan outscored MSUB off turnovers 19-9 but the two sides were equal on points in the paint with 30 each and bench scoring with seven points a side.

SFU trailed only once in the game.

After Raincock-Ekunwe hit two free throws to open the scoring, MSUB got a three pointer from Tolman to take a one point lead.

On SFU's next possession, Chambers hit a three pointer of her own to make it 5-2 for the Clan and SFU would not trail again.

The Clan led by as much as eight in the first half, eventually settling on a six point lead going into the locker rooms at the half.

The shooters caught fire for SFU in the early part of the second half as the Clan opened on a 17-5 run to open up an 18-point lead at 44-26.

MSUB chipped away at the Clan lead but could not threaten late, as the Clan left Billings with a six point win.

With the win, the Clan improve to 11-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, 18-4 overall.

The Clan will return home next week for their final two home games of the 2012-13 season, starting with Central Washington on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in the West Gym and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday's game will be Senior's Night and the Clan's annual Pink Zone game as Raincock-Ekunwe, Wyman and Kristina Collins (Port Coquitlam, BC) will play their final home game at SFU and a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation.
