Clan basketball preview

Border Battle

The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team has just one game this week, but it's a big one as they host first place Western Washington on Saturday night in the West Gym.
The Clan have not beaten the Vikings in five tries since moving from the CIS to the NCAA and the last meeting between the two squads on January 12, it came down to the last play as the Vikings scored as time expired to edge the Clan 59-57.

This time the Clan will have home court advantage as they try and gain ground in the tight GNAC race.

SFU enters the game in second place at 9-2 while Western Washington is undefeated in conference play at 11-0, so a win by the Clan would move SFU within one game of first place with six remaining.

Whip the Wildcats

The Clan men's team will head out on the road for two game road trip, starting with a date against the Central Washington Wildcats on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

SFU will be looking for redemption after the men lost a close game to CWU in the West Gym on January 12.  The Clan were within three points with seconds remaining before Dom Williams sunk two free throws to put the game out of reach and secure the 89-84 victory for Central.

Crush the Crusaders

After their game against Central Washington, the Clan will hop on a plane bound for Idaho where they will visit the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders.

SFU will look to turn in a better performance than the last time the played Northwest Nazarene.  When NNU visited the West Gym on January 10, the Clan lost 85-75.  The first half was closely contested in that game before NNU pulled away in the second.

The game is a great chance for SFU to make a move in the GNAC standings as the Clan currently sits just two games back of the Crusaders.
