Clan fall to Western Oregon in afternoon meeting

Sandhu makes 11 saves in 4-0 loss

Box Score Monmouth, OR – The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Western Oregon on Saturday, following a second-half spark from the home team.
 
Clan goalkeeper Priya Sandhu (Surrey, BC) made eleven saves during the game, keeping her team within one goal throughout the first half, but was ultimately unable to keep the Wolves at bay.
 
WOU's first goal came at the 25-minute mark as the ball escaped from a scramble in the box and was found by Allison Frost who knocked in the 1-0 shot.
 
The Clan stayed tight with the Wolves the remainder of the half, with five attempts to tie the game, but at the mid-way mark of the game, the score stood at 1-0.
 
Katrina Abel had the SFU's best chance of the half, hitting the cross-bar in the 32nd minute.
 
SFU came back in the second half and again were turned away not by the WOU keeper, but by the post as a Sierra Leung shot just ricocheted off the post allowing the home side to keep advantage.
 
Minutes later, after successfully defending two corner kicks, the Clan gave up a free-kick just outside the box, and Taylor Higa was able to put home the 2-0 ball off the cross.
 
She would score a second goal only six minutes later putting the Wolves at 3-0 with 25 minutes remaining.
 
WOU's fourth goal came in the 89th minute.
 
SFU would continue to press but were unable to get on the score sheet.
 
With the loss the Clan drop to 2-10 on the season and 2-6 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
 
The team is back in action on Thursday as they return home to host Northwest Nazarene.
 
Kick-off on Terry Fox Field is at 5:00 p.m.
