Clan Loses 2-1 To Seattle Pacific

Freshman Elishah Jilling’s second goal in as many games not enough

Burnaby, BC – SFU freshman midfielder Elishah Jilling (White Rock, BC) scored her second goal in as many games but it wasn't enough as the Simon Fraser University Clan lost 2-1 to Seattle Pacific University Falcons in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday evening on Terry Fox Field.

Seattle forward Hannah Huesers tallied a goal early in each half to give Seattle Pacific a commanding 2-0 lead until Jilling rocketed a shot from the top of the penalty area past goalkeeper Alexa

Hughes to draw the Clan to within one in the 51st minute.

The Falcons limited SFU to only two shots the rest of the way, including a 60th-minute try by Sierra Leung (Coquitlam, BC) that carried wide right. Senior midfielder Mikaela Guerreiro's (Burnaby, BC) attempt with 3:59 left to play was snared by Hughes. That was the lone save for SPU's goalkeeper.

Jilling notched her second goal in as many games and her third of the season. In Thursday's 2-1 loss to Central Washington, Jilling scored on a hard shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the keeper and into the net.

It was the eighth straight loss for the Clan. Simon Fraser (2-14-0) fell to 2-10-0 in conference games. With the win the Falcons (9-4-2) improved to 7-3-2 in conference play and clinched a berth in the four-team GNAC Tournament.

Huesers found the back of the net in the seventh and 47th minutes to increase her league-leading total to 12 goals. On her first goal Huesers gathered the rebound of a shot that caromed off the post and scored on the put back. Her second goal came less than two minutes into the second half when she scored on a rebound after Clan goalkeeper Priya Sandhu (Surrey, BC) made the initial stop.

Sandhu collected six saves for the Clan, who were outshot by a 13-4 margin.

SFU is on the road for a game against Montana State Billings on Oct. 30 and then plays its final home game on November 1 against nationally ranked Western Washington.
