FOREST GROVE, OR. – The Simon Fraser University women's wrestling team had a dominant performance at the Mike Clock Open, with eight women winning their weight classes Sunday at the Stoller Center in Forest Grove, Oregon.

SFU junior Darby Huckle (Sarnia, ON) at 101-pounds, freshmen Abby Lloyd (Powell River) at 109-pounds, senior Nikkie Brar (Abbotsford, BC) at 116-pounds, senior Laura Anderson (La Quinta, CA) at 123-pounds, junior Jennifer Anderson (Pullayup, WA) at 130-pounds, freshman Francesca Giorgio (reading, PA) at 143-pounds, senior Bailley Halvorson (Thunder Bay, ON) at 155-pounds, and freshman Payten Smith (Maple Ridge, BC) at 191-pounds all won their weight classes.

"We were quite dominant over the Oregon teams so it was a good weekend to work on specific tactics," said Clan head women's wrestling coach Mike Jones.

The tournament was highlighted by Jennifer Anderson defeating two wrestlers she had previously lost to in capturing the 130-pound bracket.

On the men's side, all but one Clan wrestler won matches during the tournament, and two Clan wrestlers placed top six in the 32-man brackets.

SFU's Ciaran Ball of Lynnwood, Wa, was fourth at 197-pounds, losing the consolation final 10-5 to Zach Anderson (Washington State University).

Morgan Smith finished top six at 174 pounds. He ran off four straight wins, including a 10-4 decision over rival Tyler Chay from Oregon State, an opponent who beat him twice last year, before losing the consolation semifinal by a 3-2 decision to Ismael Rubio (Southwest Oregon Community College).

"Top six finishes are not something you want to brag about, but they are something you can build on," said Clan men's wrestling coach Justin Abdou. "We have a lot of work to do. We want to get better every weekend, that's our goal."

Saturday, Simon Fraser lost a dual meet against Clackamus College, the second ranked junior college program in the country. Brodie Mackenzie (Maple Ridge, BC) earned a pin at 184-pounds.
