2/20/2014 11:56:00 AM

CLAN HOST FINAL HOMESTEAD OF 2014

The final home campaign of the 2013-14 season begins tonight for the Simon Fraser University men's basketball, as they host Central Washington University at 7:00 pm in the West Gym.

After a strong non-conference season, the Clan men struggled in the mid-season, but have shown increasing success and ability in the past several weeks, and look to finish the season strong, starting against Central Washington.

The team will be looking to split this seasons' series with the Wildcats, as the visitors took the last meeting between the two teams when CWU defeated the Clan in Ellensberg.

Guard Sango Niang has been on a roll as of late and leads the team with 14.6 points per game on average, while Justin Cole averages 13.8 of his own.

The two junior transfers will look to provide their team with momentum heading into their final homestand of the season, which is also the final two home games for the five Clan seniors.

Ibrahim Appiah and Chris Evans, fourth year seniors from the Clan's first NCAA recruiting class will represent the Clan in the West Gym for the final two times this weekend along with Dillon Hamilton, Taylor Dunn and David Gebru.

The senior's will look to lead the Clan to victory by exposing the Wildcats defence, which is ranked at the bottom of the GNAC.

Conversly, the visitors possess one of the top offences in the GNAC, so the Clan defence will need to be at the top of their game and contain Wildcats leading scorer Mark McLaughlin who averages 26.1 points per game.

The game is an important one for the Clan who look to boost their conference record to 3-12 which would tie their best conference season since joining the NCAA.

After tonight's game, the Clan host their final home game of the season on Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. against Northwest Nazarene University (3-11).

In the two teams last meeting, the Clan won 98-73.

WOMEN HEAD NORTH FOR IMPORTANT GAMES

Coming off a second place ranking in the first NCAA West Region ranking of 2014, the Clan women travel north this weekend for games in Alaska.

Tonight's match against Alaska Anchorage at 6:15 pm PST is an important game in the standings with the 9-5 Seawolves sit in fourth place behind the 11-4 Clan in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

Their last match of the season was a closer game than the Clan would have liked, as the team saw an 11 point lead diminish as the Seawolves pressed the home side for the majority of the game before the Clan secured the 78-74 victory.

SFU has seen production from many different players over the last several weeks, while Erin Chambers consistently provides over 20 points each game for the team, including 34 in the teams' last meeting, the Clan have received strong performances from most players on the roster on any given night.

Seawolf Alli Madison leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.6 points per game, and the Clan will look to deny her shots from the floor.

SFU is coming off two wins at home, including a 70-59 victory over Saint Martin's on Senior's Day.

After tonight's game, the Clan will play on Saturday, February 22 at 6:15 p.m. PST in Fairbanks, AK against the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks before closing out conference play on March 1 in Bellingham against the Western Washington Vikings.
