Jordan Herdman Breaks GNAC Career Tackles Record

Simon Fraser University senior linebacker Jordan Herdman set the Great Northwest Athletic Conference career record for career tackles.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Simon Fraser University senior linebacker Jordan Herdman broke the Great Northwest Athletic Conference career record for tackles but the Clan lost 33-7 to Western Oregon on Saturday afternoon at McArthur Field.

Herdman, the two-time defending GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, etched his name into the GNAC Career Record Book Saturday with four solo tackles and five assists, breaking the all-time total tackles record of 385 set by Central Washington's Buddy Wood from 2005 to 2009. Herdman began the season with 315 tackles and after Saturday's game now has 393. Last weekend, Herdman became the GNAC's all-time leader in assisted tackles too.

Herdman's record was a bright spot for the Clan who fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in GNAC action after the loss. With the win WOU improves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in GNAC action.

The Clan got their lone points of the game from their defense. Near midfield, SFU's Gabe Lopes intercepted a pass from WOU quarterback Nick Duckworth and ran it back 51 yards for a pick-six. The Clan touchdown sliced into the WOU lead, 19-7, at the 4:22 mark of the third quarter.

Western Oregon added two more touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters after leading 13-0 at halftime.

SFU had 163 total yards of offense. Quarterback Miles Richardson was 15-of-38 for 171 yards. Justin Buren had 68 yards receiving and Gavin Cobb added 152 all-purpose yards.

Nathan Kyeame led the Clan defense with 11 tackles while Justin Herdman had 10 tackles.

WOU junior wide receiver Paul Revis made a WOU record 17 receptions for 250 yards and a touchdown while the Wolves offense posted 401 yards of passing offense.

Simon Fraser has a bye this week and then plays Azusa Pacific at Swangard Stadium on Oct. 22 beginning at 1:00 PM.
