BURNABY, BC – Forward
Emma Pringle scored in the third minute but Simon Fraser University couldn't hang on, as Stanislaus State scored three second half goals for a 3-1 win in women's soccer action Friday evening on Terry Fox Field.
Pringle snuck behind the defender to corral a ball lofted into the box from midfielder
Mikaela Guerreiro and then sent a high shot over the goal keeper into the top corner. It was her third goal in as many games and put the Clan out in front 1-0.
The teams played evenly through the first half and early in the second. SFU's one goal lead held until the 58
th minute when Stanislaus State struck back with a goal from Shawna McLaughlin.
The Warriors came in waves at the Clan after that, and with overtime looming, Jade Poon redirected a ball sent into the penalty area and past SFU goalkeeper
Priya Sandhu for the game-winning goal in the 85
th minute.
Poon added an insurance marker on a penalty kick three minutes later after Simon Fraser was called for a hand ball in the box. It was Poon's fourth and fifth goals of the season and kept Stanislaus State unbeaten at 4-0.
Simon Fraser is now 2-1.
Starting her third straight game, Sandhu made eight saves on 10 shots.
Simon Fraser will play Westminster College at 1PM on Sunday on Terry Fox Field. The match will also be live streamed on Clan TV.
