BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser sophomores Jerrell Cummings and Riley Morrison have been selected to the 2021 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Football All-Conference Team.

Cummings, a defensive back from Vancouver, made the GNAC Defensive Team after recording 32 tackles (22 solo), and seven pass breakups. He forced one fumble this season, and made the recovery as well, in SFU's home game against Central Washington on Sept. 18. Cummings also had seven passes defended, tied for the team lead and seventh in the league.

From Bothell, Wash., Morrison was recognized with a spot on the Offensive Team. He made 45 receptions for 406 yards, both team bests. Morrison caught one touchdown, the winning points in SFU's 30-3 triumph at Montana State-Northern on Oct. 16.

Four players earned Honorable Mention status.

Linebacker Griffin Barrett of Moose Jaw, Sask., capped off his senior year by leading the GNAC in tackles. He recorded 98 in eight contests, for an average of 12.2 per game, 4.4 more than the next player on the list. Barrett also had a fumble recovery.

Kristie Elliott, a sophomore kicker from North Vancouver, made history by becoming the first Canadian woman to play, and score in a North American university football game. Making six appearances, she tied for the team lead in scoring.

Isaac Evans, a senior defensive lineman from Coquitlam, B.C., led SFU in sacks with three, and also recorded 29 tackles (19 solo). He had seven tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

Senior defensive back Brendan Lowry of Okotoks, Alta., recorded 27 solo tackles, and 40 in total (seventh in the GNAC), including 4.5 for a loss. Lowry intercepted two passes, and forced a fumble. He also tied for third in the GNAC, and the team best with Cummings and Evan Currie with seven passes defended.

SFU finished 1-7 (0-4 GNAC) this season, its first since before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also the program's inaugural campaign competing out of the new SFU Stadium at Terry Fox Field. It opened in the summer and is the first permanent on-campus venue for the school's football, soccer, and track and field teams.
