BURNABY, B.C. -- Freshman
Chelsea Crocq scored her second goal of the 2022 NCAA season in Simon Fraser women's soccer's 1-1 tie at Montana State Billings Thursday.
The Red Leafs (3-5-5, 2-4-3 GNAC) dominated the Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup, outshooting the host Yellowjackets 18-7 (11-5 on net). Canada's NCAA team had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks, and held the ball for 60 per cent of the game.
However, MSUB (1-9-4, 1-6-2 GNAC) scored first with a 13th-minute Vendela Andersson header inside the six-yard box off a corner.
After the goal, SFU applied more pressure towards the Yellowjackets' net. MSUB goalkeeper Clare Keenan made a nice stop on a sharp-angle
Kiara Buono (junior) shot in the 22nd-minute that might have also ended up on the head of an open SFU player in front of the net.
In the 26th minute, a Red Leafs corner kick bounced off a head and all the way to the far left side of the six-yard box. Freshman
Ava Lund-Pedersen was there and hit a shot at the goal but Keenan was there to make the save.
The best first-half chance for SFU came in the 35th minute, when Buono dribbled down the right wing into the penalty area and fired a high shot off the right goalpost.

Down 1-0 at halftime, the Red Leafs came out of the break determined to get the equalizing score, recording five shots in the opening eight minutes of the second half.
Then on a 54th minute corner, the ball deflected to Crocq inside the six-yard box and she knocked it in to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 62nd minute, senior SFU goalkeeper
Nicole Anderson leaped to her left to stop a Taylor Gertsch free kick from just outside the area, one of her four saves on the day.
Three minutes later, the Red Leafs sent a corner kick off the top of the crossbar.
With just seconds to go in the contest, SFU earned a free kick at the top of the penalty area. Izabella Muzzolini sent a low shot towards the right goalpost but Keenan made her 10th save to preserve the 1-1 draw. Muzzolini, a sophomore, led her team with five shots.
