In an exciting matchup, Simon Fraser University women's soccer secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Western Oregon at the Wolves home den in Monmouth, Oregon.
The lone goal of the game came early from SFU's
Kate Cartier, who capitalized on a rebound after
Katie Richardson's shot was saved by Wolves goalkeeper Sophia Pierce. Cartier was quick to react, putting the ball in the net and giving SFU the edge they needed.
With this victory, Simon Fraser improves to 11 wins this season, matching the NCAA-era record set by the 2010 squad. With two matches left in the season, they're looking to break that record.
As the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season winds down, the top three teams have created some separation in the standings. Simon Fraser currently sits in third place with an impressive record of 11-3-2 (7-3-2 in conference play) and 23 points. They lead the conference in goals scored, shots taken, and scoring average.
Western Oregon, previously on a remarkable six-match shutout streak, suffered back-to-back losses to Western Washington and now SFU, ending their run. The Wolves will look to regroup as the season heads into its final stretch.
