The Simon Fraser University (SFU) men's swimming team has earned the esteemed Scholar All-America award from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their exceptional academic performance during the Fall 2024 semester.
This honor is awarded to teams that not only shine in the pool but also maintain the highest standards in the classroom. To qualify for the award, teams must achieve a grade point average (GPA) above 3.0 during the semester.
Both of Simon Fraser's swimming teams have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, solidifying SFU's reputation for fostering well-rounded student-athletes. Coach
Demone Tissira, alongside the entire coaching staff, has played a pivotal role in shaping this success.
Samantha Barany, executive director of the CSCAA, expressed her admiration for SFU's continued investment in its swimming program, saying, "I understand the challenges college sports face today, and your commitment to this team is intentional and deeply appreciated."
Barany continued, "By supporting this team, you are making a difference in the lives of student-athletes—a difference that will extend far beyond their athletic careers. Swimmers are engaged members of their campus communities while attending college and remain involved as alumni. By supporting this team and these individuals, you are undoubtedly strengthening Simon Fraser's future with a powerful alumni community."
This achievement underscores the work being done at SFU both in and out of the pool, highlighting the university's ongoing dedication to the academic achievement and athletic performance of its student-athletes.
