Game Recap: SFU Women's Soccer Secures First Conference Win Over Central Washington

The Simon Fraser University (SFU) Red Leafs kicked off their GNAC regular season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Central Washington on Thursday afternoon in Ellensburg, Washington.

The decisive moment came in the 26th minute when Kiera Scott curled a right-footed strike from the corner of the box past the Wildcats' goalkeeper, capitalizing on a well-placed assist from Sofia Faremo. The goal marked Scott's fifth of the season and gave SFU the edge in a tightly contested match.

Both teams created chances throughout the game, with SFU narrowly outshooting CWU 15–11. SFU's goalkeeper Sarah Loewen was solid between the posts, recording four saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The win improves SFU's record to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in GNAC play. SFU will look to build on this momentum as they continue their road trip against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.

The team returns home October 9 for a match against Saint Martin's at Terry Fox Field. Fans can secure tickets online, in advance, here.
