A native of Coquitlam, Valerie Silva will graduate from Dr. Charles Best Secondary in June. The 5-7 midfielder has played on the senior soccer team since grade 9 and her squad has qualified for the provincial tournament each year. She will be the team captain for the upcoming grade 12 season. Silva is also a volleyball player and she was recognized by her school for her athletic leadership. The incoming freshman has ties to Simon Fraser as her mother was on the first Clan varsity women's soccer team in 1988 and her father also played for SFU in the late 80s. She will begin her own journey in the Fall, majoring in Education.

Why SFU? "SFU has always felt like home to me since it has been so close to my family and hometown. The extra academic support that student-athletes receive is amazing. I'm excited to play in the NCAA with my new teammates."
