Jerrold Jones is in his eighth season as the assistant coach for jumps of the Simon Fraser University track and field program after spending three seasons as the field events coach for Prince of Wales Secondary School in Vancouver. At SFU, Jones is responsible for coaching all the jump events.
While at SFU, Jones has coached NAIA All-Americans, a Canadian champion, a former Canadian record holder and an Olympian. From 2005-2008 Jones coached former SFU great Ruky Abdulai in the long and high and triple jump, overseeing Abdulai’s NAIA record breaking performances in these events, as Abdulai soared to win 15 individual NAIA titles. Under Jones’ tutelage, Abdulai broke the Canadian record for long jump, and was twice named the NAIA’s Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the NAIA’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
During his career, Jones has coached nearly 40 champions at the high school, collegiate and club levels. Jones is a NCCP Level III certified coach in jumps and a member of the Coaches Association of British Columbia. He is also an SFU alum, and was a multi-sport competitor for SFU from 1984-87.
