Kat Kennedy joined SFU as its full-time assistant golf coach in Sept. 2022.
"This is a historic moment for the SFU Golf program and ushers in a new era of high-performance coaching for Canada's NCAA Team. For the first time in our history, we will have two full-time coaches working for the program," remarked SFU head coach Matthew Steinbach.
From Okotoks, Alta., Kennedy has been of member of the Professional Golfers' Association of Canada since 2018. Currently, she is a Class "A" Professional.
Before joining SFU, Kennedy was most recently an associate golf professional at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club. She excelled in executing a wide range of duties, such as training front and back shop staff, running the club's major tournaments and weekly group leagues, helping with the needs of members and guests, and providing instruction. From 2016 to the spring of this year, Kennedy held a similar associate golf professional role at Vancouver's Point Grey Golf and Country Club.
Kennedy was the 2021 PGA of BC Women's champion, and the winner of the 2018 Alberta Women's Amateur championship.
Kennedy also tied for third at the PGA of BC Women's Championship in 2018 and tied for 25th at the 2019 DCM PGA Women's Championship of Canada. In 2016, Alberta Golf named her as its Female Amateur Player of the Year.
Kennedy was a member of the British Columbia Thunderbirds between 2013 and 2017, winning 11 individual titles. She was a four-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American. She made the first team in 2015 and 2017, and the second team in 2014 and 2016. In her senior season (2017), Kennedy was the top women's golfer in the NAIA.
She also earned a spot on the NAIA Women's Golf Championship All-Tournament Team in 2015.
Kennedy won the Golf Canada Canadian University / College Championship individual title twice (2016 and 2017), and led the Thunderbirds to three team banners. In total, Kennedy helped UBC win 15 tournaments during her time at the school.
She wrapped up her university career by finishing her Bachelor of Science degree, and earning the Marilyn Pomfret Trophy as UBC's Top Female Athlete in 2018.
