Hamel: "Katie is a dynamic and athletic fullback who has a big engine and plays with a physical edge. She is a consistent player who works extremely hard on both sides of the ball. She was a very important addition for us in terms of what we want to do tactically. She gives us options on the field and I can't wait to have her in our environment."
 
A native of Langley, Katie MacEwen is looking forward to starting her collegiate soccer career at SFU as she follows in her father's footsteps to play soccer atop Burnaby Mountain. Family ties her to Simon Fraser, as her mother also graduated from SFU and her brother is currently a student. "From an education standpoint, SFU is a world-class school with a fantastic reputation," said MacEwen. "From a soccer perspective, it's an up-and-coming program with an incredible history." The five-foot-seven fullback has represented BC numerous times during her youth career and won a gold medal at the 2015 Western Canada Games in Wood Buffalo, AB. At the club level, she was a provincial champion in 2014.
