Kayla Goncalves will join SFU from Vaughan, ON upon graduating from Bill Crothers Secondary, where she has been an honour roll student since 2014. In addition to soccer, she was a multi-sport athlete throughout high school and captained both the basketball and flag football teams. The left-footed fullback/winger won the U18 Quebec Cup and U17 Ontario Youth Soccer League title with her team in 2016. Goncalves has played in the Ontario Women's Soccer League, Futsal Club Toronto Women's League and is currently playing in League1 Ontario, where she has scored two goals in 14 games from the left back position. "I chose SFU because it is the only NCAA school in Canada," Goncalves explained. "I have now been given the opportunity to receive a Canadian education with an American playing experience. Stepping on campus at SFU truly felt like home." She will be pursuing a degree in Criminology at Simon Fraser.
