Clete Hanson

Clete Hanson (MUrb) is a Washington (WIAA) State Wrestling Champion from East Valley High School in Spokane, WA, and a 3x All-American for Simon Fraser University. After graduating with a double major in Communications and Political Science, Clete transitioned into his role as the Men’s Wrestling Assistant Coach for three years, also serving as the BC Wrestling Women’s High-Performance Coach in 2014 and later the Interim Executive Director of BC Wrestling (2019).

After the 2014 season, Clete stepped away from coaching and for three years worked as the Communications & Development Coordinator for Aunt Leah’s Place, a Metro Vancouver-based nonprofit that assists youths transitioning from government care and one of Charity Intelligence’s (2017 –) Top 10 Impact Charities. Along with serving as a grant writer, Clete helped streamline the organization's marketing and donor outreach efforts, bringing in over 5 million in donations and capital project funding from charitable foundations and government aid.

Clete has a passion for supporting young people and earned his Master’s at SFU in Urban Studies, where he studied the experiences and daily survival of youths transitioning from government care as they navigate through challenges, obtain resources, and seize opportunities in Metro Vancouver. Clete is the son of Washington State Hall of Fame wrestling coach and retired teacher Craig Hanson.
