Clan lose foggy battle at Terry Fox Field

BURNABY, B.C. – On a foggy night at Terry Fox Field, the Simon Fraser University women's soccer team lost to the Western Oregon University Wolves by a score of 1-0.

The weather played havoc with the game all night, as a thick fog that settled over the field created visibility problems for all in attendance, particularly the players.

Both teams played a careful first half, trying to adjust to the unique conditions, but late in the opening half, the Wolves found the back of the net.

It was not only the first but the only goal of the game as Western Oregon's Marina Austin punched one into back of the net in the 31st minute. Madison Shore had the assist.

The fog did not let up and neither team scored in the second half, as the Wolves held on for a 1-0 victory.

Clan goalkeeper Amanda Gilliland (Delta, B.C.) made six saves on the night.

With this loss, the Clan's record drops to 1-11 and 0-9 in conference play.

The Clan will be back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. on Terry Fox Field when they will be facing the Saint Martin's University Saints. Admission is free.
