Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team threatened for most of the evening on Saturday night at Terry Fox Field but the Clan could not find the back of the net, falling to the Saint Martin's Saints 2-0.
Marissa Di Lorenzo (Burnaby, BC) created the best scoring chance of the first half in the 25th minute with a cross pass in the box that just missed the trailing Clan player.
That was as close as either team would get to scoring as the team's remained tied 0-0 at halftime.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half by Saint Martin's.
The Saints scored when after several blocked shots, Caley Wiseman found the loose ball and punched a shot past Clan goalkeeper Amanda Gilliland (Delta, BC) to make it 1-0 for SMU in the 52nd minute.
Di Lorenzo had her second great scoring opportunity of the match in the 63rd minute, but just missed her shot wide right.
While the Clan put pressure on the Saints it was not to be, as SMU added one more goal in the 81st minute to secure the 2-0 victory.
Both teams put six shots on goal in the match.
The loss drops the Clan's record to 1-12 on the season, 0-9 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Clan women will try to get back in the win column on the road next week when they visit the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders on Thursday and the Montana State University-Billings Yellowjackets on Saturday.
