Burnaby, BC – At the home opener on Saturday, December 1, the Simon Fraser University men's basketball team will honour legendary former head coach, Stan Stewardson.
The ceremony will take place at halftime to recognize Stewardson's enormous contributions to Clan basketball.
Stewardson coached the Clan for a total of nine seasons, first from 1975 through 1979 and then again from 1984 to 1989.
Among the players he led during his time at Simon Fraser were Canadian hero Terry Fox and Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach Jay Triano.
During his time at Simon Fraser, 11 of his players played on the Canadian National team and 16 of his players went on to play professional basketball.
In 2004, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Metro Vancouver Basketball Foundation and in 2005, he was inducted into the Basketball BC Hall of Fame.
The game will be the Clan's first Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest of the season, and it will be a tough test against the defending NCAA division II National Champions, the Western Washington Vikings.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
