Box Score San Rafeal, CA- In the first of a two game road trip, the Simon Fraser University men's basketball team suffered a loss to the Dominican University of California Penguins, 96-60.
Senior guard Matt Raivio (Vancouver, WA) led all Clan players with 11 points. Fellow guard
Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) added eight points while Milos Milosevic (Bar, Montenegro) chipped in six points and seven rebounds to SFU's effort.
Penguins Devin Golston and Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten tied to lead all players with 14 points each.
The Clan kept in contention with DU leading throughout the first half.
With 8:20 remaining in the first, the Penguins took off on a 10-0 run to give the home side an 11 point lead at 33-22.
SFU came within 10 of DU on three occasions throughout the remainder of the half off of converted field goals from Milosevic,
Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC) and Anto Olah (Gold Coast, AUS).
However the Penguins ended the half on a 10-3 run expanding their lead to 17, resulting in a 50-33 halftime score.
DU maintained control throughout the second half, continuing to put the Clan into a deeper hole.
The Clan were outrebounded by DU in the game, 35-24, and committed a detrimental 20 turnovers.
With the loss, SFU's record drops to 5-3 overall and remains 0-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, as this game was a non-conference match.
Finishing their trip to California, the Clan will next take on Academy of Art University on Wednesday,
December 19 at 7:00 p.m. That will end the Clan's first half as SFU heads into the break.
