Box Score

Burnaby, BC – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team faced a tough test against the first place Western Oregon Wolves and despite a good effort put forth by the Clan, WOU took the match three sets to one.

"The first set felt really good, we played well together as a team and got the points when we needed to," said Tamara Nipp (North Vancouver, BC).  "It's all about focusing on the next set and the little things.  There were a lot of positives in this match that we need to build on this Saturday."

Kills for SFU were pretty balanced in the game as Jessica Young (Vancouver, BC) led the team with 13 and Katie Forsyth (Delta, BC) was right behind her with 12.

The dig totals were also tight as Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) led SFU with 17 and Danielle Curtis (North Vancouver, BC) was close behind her with 14.

Western Oregon's Danielle Reese led all players in kills with 17 and Megan Triggs led all player in digs with 18.

SFU stormed out of the gate in the first set, taking a 7-2 lead thanks to an early 6-0 run.  The Clan built their lead to six points late at 18-12 before the Wolves started chipping away, tying the set at 21 but SFU held on for the 26-24 set win.

The second set was another close battle, as the score was tied seven times.  With the score tied at 12 WOU took a lead they would not relinquish and while things stayed close, the Wolves took the second set 25-21 to tie the match at one set apiece.

While the Clan continued to be a tough test for the first place Wolves late in the game, WOU took the final two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-19, to take the match three sets to two.

With the loss, the Clan fall to 2-9 on the season, 0-5 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The SFU volleyball team will be back in action in the West Gym on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Saint Martin's Saints.
