Birmingham, AL - The Simon Fraser University women's swim team slipped to seventh overall in the standings on the second day of the NCAA Championships, reaching the championship race in one event and the consolation final in two others.
The 400-yard medley relay team turned in the top performance of the day for the Clan.
Kristine Lawson (Coquitlam, BC), Mariya Chekanovych (Burnaby, BC),
Alexandria Schofield (Coquitlam, BC) and
Nicole Cossey (Innisfail, AB) finished second to the NCAA Division II champions from Long Island University Post, as the Clan women posted a time of 3:44.15.
SFU's 200-yard freestyle relay team could not reach the finals and posted a fourth place finish in the consolation final, to give the team a 12th place overall finish.
The group of Lawson, Jordyn Konrad (Salmon Arm, BC), Chekanovych and Cossey swam in a time of 1:35.25.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Carman Nam (Hong Kong, China) made the consolation final and finished eighth to place 16th overall. Nam swam in a time of 4:32.17.
The NCAA Division II Swimming Championship continues on
Friday in Birmingham. The Clan will be back in action in several races including Nam in the 500-yard freestlye, Lawson in the 100-yard backstroke and Chekanovych in the 100-yard breaststroke, an event she is ranked first in.
