Box Score Burnaby, BC – The Simon Fraser University women's volleyball team defeated Montana State University Billings in straight sets Saturday night in front of a large home crowd on their annual Pink Night supporting breast cancer charities.

In their last meeting the Clan beat MSUB in five sets in an up-and-down game, while this evening's match was a more one-sided event, Simon Fraser winning 26-24, 25-17 and 25-12.

"It was a good team effort tonight," said head coach Gina Schmidt. "Everyone on the floor contributed to the cause and our passing and defence allowed us to run our offence very effectively."

The teams were tied at 15-15 in the first set when Montana State Billings made three consecutive errors to give the Clan the go-ahead 18-15.

It wasn't a clear shot to victory, however, as the Yellowjackets mounted a comeback, forcing the game past the 25-point mark as they tied the game at 24 apiece.

Simon Fraser's Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) rocked home a Brooklynn Gould-Bradbury set to give the Clan advantage, followed by the set-winning point, a missed attack by the Yellowjackets.

In sets two and three the play was much smoother-sailing as the Clan were boosted ahead 14-11 following another grouping of errors by the visitors.

SFU continued to execute throughout the remainder of the match, winning the final set in exciting fashion as Jessica Young (Vancouver, BC) served an ace on match point.

Hait finished with a game-high 14 kills and zero errors, while Amanda Renkema (Delta, BC) and Young added ten and eight kills respectively.

Setters Gould-Bradbury and Danielle Curtis recorded 18 assists each while Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) had 19 digs.

The Clan took the game 3-0 as their record improves to 14-6 on the season and 8-4 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

Simon Fraser will be back in action next week as they travel to Washington and Idaho for games against Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene.
