Box Score Lacey, WA – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team continued their winning streak Thursday night, defeating Saint Martin's in straight sets 3-0.
The Clan built from their momentous win over nationally ranked Central Washington last weekend, bring a strong team effort to beat the Saints.
"It was a good team effort tonight," said head coach
Gina Schmidt. "We got off to a quick start and were able to stay composed and disciplined when SMU pushed back in the second and third sets."
The Clan won the three sets 25-11, 25-21 and 26-24, remaining calm despite SMU's pressure in the final two sets.
The first set was won by a great margin, the Clan leading the entire game with little pressure from the home side.
In the second set however, the Saints came to play, both teams battling the entire set for the win.
At the 13-13 mark SFU was finally able to pull away from SMU to win 25-21, but the home team continued to build momentum returning even stronger in the third set.
This time the Saints took the Clan past the 25-point mark, forcing the win to come at 26-24, but the Clan were able to find a way to win and avoid dropping a set on the night.
SFU was led by
Amanda Renkema with 11 kills, while
Madeline Hait added eight kills and two blocks.
Brooklynn Gould-Bradburry had 25 assists while
Alison McKay had 20 digs.
With the win the Clan improve to 11-5 on the season and 5-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
SFU continues their road-trip this Saturday as they take on Western Oregon.
The game begins at 7:00 p.m. in Monmouth, OR.
