Chambers, Wilson Combine for 52 Points

SFU is off to a 2-0 start after 78-61 win over AAU

Belmont, Calif. – Senior forward Erin Chambers (Mission, BC) scored 33 points and forward Meg Wilson (London, ON) had a double-double to lead Simon Fraser University to its second straight win to start the season, 78-61, over Academy of Art Knights in a women's basketball game Saturday in Belmont, CA.

Chambers and Wilson combined for 52 points.

Chambers, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, scored 33 points on 11-of-24 shooting Saturday after scoring 28 points in the season-opening 93-64 win over Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts on Friday.

Wilson turned in a monster performance, scoring 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and pulling down 15 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. Wilson filled her stat line by adding five assists, two blocks and three steals in 38 minutes.

"They are roommates so I would say their house had a pretty good day," said Clan head coach Bruce Langford. "Erin was very consistent and is displaying great leadership while Meg was very active on the boards and brought great energy to the game."

Simon Fraser broke open a two-point game with a 24-8 run over the final seven minutes of the first half and the Knights never recovered. The Clan extended its 48-30 half-time lead to 24 points four minutes into the second to seal the win. Wilson had two three-pointers and Chambers had another in the final two minutes of the first half during the Clan's explosive run.

Simon Fraser was 8-of-19 from beyond the arc in the first half but followed that with a 1-for-9 performance in the second half.

"It's early in the season but I liked our resilience and ability to take over the game to go on some runs," said Langford.

Overall, it was a solid performance for the Clan defensively. Simon Fraser out rebounded the Knights 58-45 with five Clan players finishing with five or more rebounds.
Simon Fraser also held the Knights to a 35.8 field goal shooting percentage and limited the Knights to just two three-pointers in the game.

"I liked our ability to take away their three-point shot," said Langford.

Sophomore point guard Ellen Kett (Niddrie, Australia) added 10-points and seven assists for the Clan.

Knights guard Regina Camera finished with a team-high 14 points and five rebounds for while guard Jasmin Guinn had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. AAU forward Krystal Forthan was limited to 10 points and three rebounds in 13 minutes, ending a 17-game double-double streak.
