Burnaby, BC – The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team earned their second loss of the weekend to California State University – Dominguez Hills, falling 79-74 in a tightly contested match.
The Clan shot 51.8 percent from the floor, but the team was unable to contain the Toro's offence for the second straight game.
Freshman
Rachel Fradgley scored a career high 16 points in the match, while the Division II leading scorer
Erin Chambers led all players on the court with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
The Clan opened strong, taking an early 4-0 lead, but the Toros quickly bounced back as the Clan surrendered their lead, trailing 19-16 midway through the half.
At half-time, Simon Fraser trailed 42-35, but they would push the score to within three points with eight minutes remaining in the match.
Trailing 74-70 a Fradgley block gave the home team the chance to pull within two, which they did as the freshman forward suck a lay-up at the other end of the court.
From there the Toros successfully defended their lead, taking the victory 79-74 over Simon Fraser.
With the loss the Clan fall to 5-4 overall, and remain at 1-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
They will have a chance to improve on those records on January 1, 2015 as they host the Montana State University – Billings Yellowjackets.
Tip off in the West Gym is at 7:00 p.m.
