Turlock, CA - The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team showed moments of greatness in their 4-2 loss to the Humboldt State Lumberjacks Saturday afternoon.
The Clan opened the scoring for the first time in 2014, and scored a pair of exciting goals in their most productive offensive game of the year.
Olivia Aguiar netted her first of the season in the 42nd minute to open the scoring for the Clan, knocking in a Devon Kollymer cross with her head, and giving the Clan a 1-0 lead.
After the early spark for the Clan, the Lumberjacks turned the momentum in their favour as Lizzie Mitchell and Maddie Unnamed combined for a pair of goals in the 56th and 59th minutes to make it 2-1 for the Californians.
Collette Behen and Taylor McMillan scored two more goals for HSU in the second period, but the Clan did not give up as the team built momentum in the Lumberjacks' end late in the period.
Again, it was Aguiar who was able to find the back of the net for the Clan, scoring her second of the night and finalizing the score at 4-2 for HSU.
Thanks to her efforts, Aguiar was named to the tournament all-star team, earning, the only Clan player to earn the honour.
The Clan had a season high nine shots, and goalkeeper
Priya Sandhu made three saves for SFU.
With the loss the Clan drop to a 0-4 record in non-conference play.
SFU is back in action as they look for their first win of 2014 when they visit Seattle Pacific University on September 18th for their Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener.
