BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University head coach
Bruce Langford made history Saturday after the Clan defeated Western Oregon University 76-56 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball game in the West Gym.
It was a historic victory for Langford. Win No. 364 in Langford's career elevated him into a class all of his own. Langford passed legendary coach Allison McNeill to set a new career win mark at SFU. Langford has a career record of 364-86 competing in CIS and NCAA Division II. McNeill compiled a record of 363-79 during her tenure at SFU when the Clan competed in the NAIA and one season in CIS.
"It's nice to win this game here at home in front of some people who came out to watch us play tonight because this game was special," said Langford. "A lot of my ex-players were here and I got to win the game in front of my grandson."
"Great coaches impact your life on and off the court and Bruce has done that for me," said junior guard
Alisha Roberts (Burnaby, BC).
Langford has coached the Clan to seven 30+ win seasons and five CIS national championships. Twice his teams have gone undefeated, and he has guided the Clan to 45- and 54-game winning streaks. Now he enters the record book as the most successful basketball coach in SFU history.
