BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University swept Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets in straight sets on Dig Pink Night in the West Gym, raising over $400 for breast cancer research through fan pledges per team dig.

Clan took down MSUB in straight sets 14-25, 17-25, 19-25. This victory brought SFU up to 6-8 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. MSUB is now 3-9 in the conference.

The match was the Clan's annual Dig Pink night to raise awareness and fundraise for breast cancer research. Fans pledged donations based on team and individual player dig during the contest. The Clan finished with 68 digs, with Alison Mckay (22), Danielle Curtis (11) and Emma Jennings (10) leading the way.

"On a night we were earning donations for digs I thought our defense really stepped up," said Clan head coach Gina Schmidt.

The Clan came out in set 1 ready to take control of the match. With Jennings and Madison Power leading the Clan in kills with 5 and 4, respectively, the Clan out-attacked the Yellowjackets 39 to 34 kills. Despite 3 kills from MSUB's Ashlynn Ward and 2 from Audri Marrs, the Clan took the set 25-14.

Sets 2 and 3 had similar outcomes with Clan victories at 25-17 and 25-19. With each game holding point-for-point through the first half, the Clan stayed consistent and tough, pulling away with big leads that carried them through. Freshman Tessa May led SFU with 13 kills followed closely by opposite middle blocker Madison Power with 12. McKay had a dominant game offensively with 22 digs in 3 sets while Tamara Nipp set up 37 assists.

"Before the match we talked about being disciplined and we did a good job of that tonight. We were able to take advantage of a couple of mismatches offensively," said Schmidt.

The Clan travels to Portland, OR next to face to Concordia University Cavaliers on Nov. 6 followed by the Western Oregon University Wolves on Nov. 7.
