Seattle, WA - The SFU Clan women's volleyball team (13-4, 6-3) dropped their second straight 3-0 decision on Thursday, as they were stunned by the Seattle Pacific University Falcons (8-9, 4-5) on the road.
Final set scores of the sweep read 25-22, 25-20, and 25-10 for the host Falcons.
"Tonight was a disappointing loss," said SFU head coach
Gina Schmidt. "Our block and defence held us in the match but offensively we didn't just didn't execute well enough. We will look to bounce back and find our rhythm again for Saturday."
Freshman outside hitter Gabby Oddo had a monster game for SPU, leading all hitters with 14 kills while adding a team-high 14 digs. On the Clan side,
Emma Jennings and
Madison Power each pulled down six kills, while
Alison McKay paced the team defensively with 16 digs.
The Falcons dictated play at the net, getting 16 points off blocks to the Clan's four. A strong net-front presence, combined with excellent court coverage, forced SFU into 29 attacking errors. In contrast, SPU, only posted 16. The Clan's 26 kills in the contest marked their lowest total since GNAC play started in September.
Fortunately for the Clan, there won't be much time to dwell on this one, as they set out for Lacey, WA to face the Saint Martin's Saints this Saturday, October 15. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
