Golden Goal Sinks Clan In 2-1 Home Loss

Montana State University Billings’ Kylie Wolf scored a golden goal in the fifth minute of overtime to hand Simon Fraser University a 2-1 loss Saturday.

BURNABY, BC – Montana State University Billings' Kylie Wolf scored a golden goal in the fifth minute of overtime to hand Simon Fraser University a 2-1 loss Saturday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Terry Fox Field.

The loss dropped the Clan to 5-4-1 overall and 3-3-0 in the GNAC. MSUB improved to 3-2-1 in the GNAC, 3-6-2 overall.

MSUB scored against the winner against the flow of play as Simon Fraser outshot the visitors 24-8 and controlled much of the game in both halves and into overtime. Earlier in overtime, SFU freshman Emma Pringle fired a shot off the cross bar and the Clan pressed forward after surrendering the tying goal early in the second half.

The game-winner came on a counter-attack. With MSUB racing down the field, Wolf received a pass from Dana Lubieniecki on the wing and fired a low shot into the far right corner past Clan keeper Priya Sandhu.

MSUB tied the game on a penalty kick three minutes into the second half after Clan defender Teagan Sorokan fouled a Yellowjackets player in the penalty area and was booked for a yellow card.

Lubieniecki scored from the penalty spot with a low hard shot to the corner.

Simon Fraser scored first and looked to be in control for most of the match.

Pringle scored 10 minutes into the contest when she converted a poor clearing by a MSUB defender. Midfielder Jenna Baxter sent a long cross into the box off a free kick that the MSUB defender tried to head away. Instead, the ball found Pringle unguarded and she quickly pounced on it, firing a low shot into the right corner from 12 yards out.

Pringle, who leads the GNAC in shots per game, tallied her conference-leading seventh goal of the season. She had five shots on Saturday.

MSUB keeper Lili Delgadillo faced 24 shots, making nine saves.

Clan goalie Sandhu faced eight shots in the contest, making three saves, all in the first half. MSUB almost won it late in the second half when a Clan defender deflected a corner kick off the cross bar.

Simon Fraser almost scored the go-ahead goal in the 58th minute when Katelyn Erhardsen fired a shot off the cross bar.

The Clan now goes on the road for a pair of games against Saint Martin's University (Oct. 11) and Seattle Pacific (Oct. 16).
