KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Kingsville jumped out to a 40-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes and never looked back, beating Simon Fraser University 68-7 Saturday afternoon in a NCAA Division II non-conference game.

"Texas A&M-Kingsville started fast and never took the foot off the gas pedal," said Clan head coach
Kelly Bates. "We were unable to match their skill and size. I'm proud of our kids for playing hard to the end."

Texas A&M-Kingsville is a longtime member of the Lone Star Conference (LSC) and is 2-0 to start the season.

SFU will have to put the loss behind them and focus now on its conference opener next weekend. The Clan's first Great Northwest Athletic Conference game is set for Sept. 17 (6:00 PM) at Swangard Stadium against Humboldt State (1-1), which lost 38-27 to Azusa Pacific on Saturday.

Simon Fraser's lone touchdown against Texas came late in the second quarter when
Trevor Kemp blocked a Kingsville punt and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown.

Clan quarterback
Miles Richardson went 11-of-35 for 108 yards and three interceptions. WR
Justin Buren caught four passes for 51 yards while RB
Jalen Jana rushed 11 times for 39 yards.

SFU (0-2) was led on defence by linebacker
Jordan Herdman who registered 11 tackles.

Kingsville outgained SFU in total yardage 421-to-101.
