Clan loses 79-69 on road to CU, plays at home Thursday

PORTLAND, Ore.— Simon Fraser University lost 79-69 to Concordia University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at LCEF Court in Portland, Ore.

The loss dropped the Clan to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Clan plays a pair of home games this upcoming week on Jan. 11 against Saint Martin's and Jan. 13 vs. Seattle Pacific. Both home games are 7PM tip-offs.

Simon Fraser was led by 19-points from freshman Jessica Jones while Tayla Jackson chipped in 15 points and Tayler Drynan had 12 points.  The Clan was held to just 40% from the field including just 36% from three-point range.  They were also out-rebounded 45 to 37 and had 17 turnovers.

Concordia had a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint, a 27-17 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored the Clan 16-2 on the fast break.

CU lead 45-37 at the half that they pushed that lead out to double digits, 47-37, early in the third quarter.  Simon Fraser would not go away as the Clan cut the CU lead to 58-55 with 1:01 left in the third quarter.  But the Cavaliers scored the quarter's final five points to take a 63-55 lead into the final ten minutes.

The Cavaliers outscored SFU 16-8 in the first eight minutes of the last quarter to take their largest lead of the game, 79-63. Simon Fraser scored the final six points of the game, but it was a too late as the Cavaliers took the 79-69 win.

Danielle Hartzog scored a career-high 34 points, grabbed nine rebounds, four assists, five steals and two blocked shots in the Cavaliers' win.
