Tyler Baldock Named Women’s U20 Canadian National Team GK Coach

BURNABY, BC --- Tyler Baldock, a member of the Simon Fraser University Men's Soccer Team's coaching staff, has been announced as the Goalkeeping Coach for the Canadian Women's Under-20 National Team. Baldock will begin his coaching stint for Canada as the U20's get set for CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers later this month in the Dominican Republic.

Prior to his coaching career, Baldock played for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2007 and 2008 where they went on to win the USL Championship. He also played for the Abbotsford Mariners (of the United Soccer Leagues) in 2008 and the West Virginia Chaos (of the Premier Development League) in 2005.

Baldock shared his thoughts on the opportunity to coach at the National Level:

"I'm very excited to be asked to be a part of this phenomenal coaching staff and amazing group of young players. It's an honour to be asked to represent your country, and I'm very much looking forward to be involved with the U-20 Women's Qualifying campaign. Under the new format, with only two teams qualifying, it will definitely be a tough tournament. Our goal has always been to qualify, and I firmly believe that this group has more than enough quality to do just that."

Head Coach Clint Schneider also added his thoughts on Baldock's newest coaching assignment:

"We are very excited for Tyler to have the opportunity to coach for his country. He is an excellent goalkeeper coach and a quality person. SFU has a long history of providing coaches for the youth national teams and I'm excited for Tyler to carry on that tradition."

Chris Sargeant, who works with Baldock through the Vancouver Whitecaps Girls REX program, added his perspective as well: "Tyler is a fantastic coach and a great person, I wish him all the best. He will add a lot to the goalkeepers and they are lucky to have him."
