Strong Batting Leads SFU to 3-2 Record in the Desert

LAS VEGAS, NV --- On Sunday at the Desert Stinger, the Simon Fraser Softball team picked up their third win of the year against San Francisco State by a final score of 12-6.

Doubling up their opponents, Simon Fraser moved to 3-2 with the win, as they return home before heading back out on the road for another tournament, the Cactus Classic, in Arizona later this month.

Simon Fraser was propelled to victory by both outstanding offensive and defensive performances. In the circle, Anissa Zacharczuk picked up her 2nd win of the season, going 5 innings strong while surrendering just four hits and two earned runs.

Offensively, Hannah Boulanger had a huge day, going 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 home runs and 5 total RBIs. Courtney DeAdder, Mel Groeneweggen and Alex Ogg also each had multi-hit outings, while Ogg currently leads the GNAC in batting average (at .737) and hits (with 14).

In particular, SFU's massive 4th and 5th innings against SF State put them over the top, as they combined for 8 runs in those two innings alone. The bats have certainly been a strength for SFU so far, as they've put up some pretty impressive numbers as a team at the plate.

Adding her thoughts after the tournament was SFU Head Coach Tina Andreana

"We had a really solid weekend offensively. Putting up some huge numbers, with a team batting average of .371, 13 home runs, 10 doubles, and 4 triples and a slugging percentage of .748. With over half the team hitting a homerun a piece, it was a combined team effort in each win to put runs across the board. I'm very happy with the way the team played this weekend, and looking forward to putting in two weeks of work in preparation for the Cactus Classic in Tucson, AZ."
